I have been a music educator for 12 years and counting, and teaching has come to mean as much to me as performing. I have taught private lessons in New York and San Francisco, have been on the faculty at the Stanford Jazz Workshop for 10 straight years, have lectured in Jazz theory and coached small ensembles at Stanford University, and have participated in various masterclasses and in-school presentations.
I currently teach saxophone at all ages and levels, as well as beginner through intermediate clarinet and flute. I can also provide a concentration on jazz at any level. My educational approach blends my learning in classical and jazz instrumental technique, ear training, and physical mechanics to ensure that the act of playing is comfortable, enjoyable, and rewarding. In the field of jazz, I teach my students a combination of jazz history, improvisation concepts, theory, and my own ideas on music as a language for expression and community building.
I am available for private lessons by appointment throughout the Bay Area, and have a studio in Hornucopia, located at 1549 Laurel St in San Carlos. Hornucopia is easy to get to from 101 or 280, has convenient parking, and is also the best place on the peninsula to rent or purchase a woodwind instrument.
